Who says it's not easy being green? Today is Earth Day, a day created to raise awareness when it comes to the environment. Although it was established in 1970, it continues to grow in popularity every year. Initially, Earth Day was only observed in the United States. However, the celebration went global in 1990 and is now recognized by 175 countries every year. As a parent, it's crucial to teach children the importance of taking care of Mother Earth. Here are a few ways you can make Earth Day a family affair. Check the paper or local chamber of commerce for Earth Day activities. Take your kids to a cleanup where they can be hands-on in doing their part. Even if your child isn't into the event initially, once he sees how enthusiastic everybody else is about making a contribution, he's sure to jump on the bandwagon. Another great option is to plant a tree, flower or plant as a family.
