Super Shoe Storage Ideas
Are your Pumas scratching up your pumps? Flats and flip-flops in a big, messy pile in the closet? If the mountain of Manolos in your closet is getting out of hand, then maybe a little shoe organization is in order. It doesn’t take a lot of cash or a large organization system to get your footwear in order. There are a lot of options for shoe organization, so take a look at the space you have – or don’t have – and choose accordingly. Maybe you’d like to have all your shoes at eye level and off the ground. If so, then look for an available door on which you can hang a shoe organizer. Over-the-door organizers are perfect for people who live in small spaces, like apartments. Another option for maximizing floor space is to use an organizer that slides under the bed. Collapsible, sectioned fabric organizers can be had cheaply and hold a lot of shoes.
They’re usually topped with a zippered plastic cover, which protects shoes from dust bunnies. This is a great option for out-of-season shoes that still need to be accessible. If you have space in the closet, then a hanging organizer is a great option – the fabric cushions shoes and protects them from dust, plus they’re off the floor. If the floor is an option for you, or you like displaying your shoes, then a stackable shoe rack is great – the modular pieces are sold separately, so whenever you need to add a row, you can do so easily. Consider racks in areas where shoes tend to congregate, like mudrooms, garages or home entrances. Shoe organization can be as minimal or as decorative as you choose to get. In fact, dressmaker Lily Pulitzer recently introduced an ottoman that opens to reveal pockets that store shoes. How’s that for multitasking?
