How to Fight Facial Lines

Lines, lines, everywhere lines. Does your face look and feel like a roadmap these days? Nothing ages a fresh face faster than facial lines. We’re talking about the wrinkles that accompany too much of something – whether it’s sun, smoke or simply age. Believe it or not, there are ways to prevent – and reduce — wrinkles. Drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated. Eat a balanced diet that’s rich in fruits and vegetables. Take vitamins. Get plenty of sleep. Exercise regularly. Meditate. Quit smoking. Limit alcohol consumption. Watch the amount caffeine you consume. Always use sunscreen and avoid exposure to the sun. Use a moisturizer daily. Consider investing in an anti-wrinkle cream. Get a facial done monthly. Some experts swear by home remedies, such as homemade masks. Take an egg white. Whip it in a bowl and add lemon juice and honey to the mix. Apply to face. Rinse with warm water. Or mash a papaya and apply it as a paste to the skin. Leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

If you’re still not satisfied with the results, you can take more drastic measures to turn that frown upside down. Among the most popular treatments for dealing with lines are chemical peels, skin resurfacing (aka microdermabrasion) and Botox injections. A chemical peel usually takes about 15 minutes and uses alpha hydroxyl acids to less the visibility of those unwanted lines, while a medium chemical peel uses trichoacetic acid to fight lines, wrinkles and discoloration that results from aging. With microdermabrasion, the top layer of skin is removed to show fresher skin. There are also treatments where lasers are used to remove the top layer of skin, as well as deep facial lines. Perhaps one of the most frequently used treatments is Botox, where botulism is used to paralyze the facial muscles. This treatment must be done every three to six months.
