Beauty Tools: Only the Essentials
There are a few implements that no beauty regimen should be without. Whether it’s a handy tool that amps up the glam or one that covers up those “uh-oh” moments, here are a few that you need in your vanity. Of course you need your makeup and hair products, but what else? Grab a few Q-tips to help apply eyeshadow, lip color and other cosmetics precisely. A Q-tip soaked in nail polish remover will give your manicure a professional finish. Grab a great sharpener for those lip liners and eyeliners that so desperately need it. Sharpen your products once or twice a week to keep them sharp – and most important, reduce germs. Professional makeup artists always sharpen between clients to reduce the risk of passing on bacteria. Apply lip balm as often as you can remember, and keep a few lying around, whether they’re in your desk drawer, car or purse.
A lip balm that contains sunscreen keeps lips lush and makes applying lipstick – especially matte formulas – smoother. And speaking of sunscreen, all women need a layer under makeup, even on cloudy days. Try a sheer, oil-free version if your skin gets too oily or shiny during the day. For your hair, invest in a flat or curling iron to tame wavy hair or give lackluster straight hair some style. Be sure your choice has a tourmaline coating to prevent it from drying ends. At the end of the day, be sure to take off your makeup, especially eye makeup, which can cause infections if not removed. When you go to bed, remember to take your vitamins – on your face. Invest in a good night cream that contains vitamins A, C and E – they’ll do wonders to combat the signs of aging and keep your skin healthy and glowing. Finally, for polished piggies and fingernails, keep a bottle of clear polish around. It’s great in a pinch when you need something to jazz up your fingertips or simply to strengthen your nails. And it’s great for stopping runs in your tights!
