Big Brows: How to Get the Look
Thin, high arches for brows? Pluck that. Embrace this season’s look, which hearkens back to the days of Brooke Shields and her bushy brows. Women once plucked those patches of hair above their eyes to within an inch of their lives, using a pencil to draw a hard line where they once were. The practice of getting those super high, sparse arches creates a look of eternal surprise and is impossible to keep up with. So after shelling out wads of cash to get them waxed comes the welcome news that you’re perfectly on trend with hearty hair up there. That’s not to say that an unkempt look is the way to go – looking like Bert from Sesame Street is not the goal. You want to keep things neat. Start by lining up an eye liner or brow pencil vertically against the side of your nose. Make a small mark near the end of your eyebrow. Pluck stray hairs to the left of it, and repeat on the other side – this will prevent that monobrow look.
Then take a look at the other ends, where your eyebrows meet your temples. If you see any strays there, tweeze them as well. Now you’re ready to start on the arches, which are tough to get right. Resist the urge to tweeze or wax right in the middle underside of your brow. All it needs is a little cleaning up. The same goes for the top of the brow. Take that pencil and angle it at the base of your nose, to the side. Align it with the outermost edge of the iris (colored part) of your eye. The peak of your arch should start where the pencil intersects with the brow. Leave a subtle point on top and a small arch below. Fill any thin spots with a soft brow pencil or powder that matches your hair, and use brow gel to shape them. Voila – you’ve got the hottest look for brows.
