Dorm Room Diet

As opposed to other diets, The Dorm Room Diet does not advocate deprivation. After all, it is college. Instead Daphne’s goal is to show students the right direction by giving them info on everything from drinking to a healthy diet.

She encourages foods such as low=fat, low-sugar yogurt, fresh fruit, whole wheat toast, low-fat cheese, instant oatmeal, high-fiber, low-sugar breakfast cereal while avoiding alcohol, full-fat cheese and simple carbs. Good treats include coffee, bread dipped in olive oil and chocolate — all in moderation.

Some more words of wisdom from Daphne… Stay away from fried foods, cheesy or creamy sauces, sugary cereals, high-sugar fruit juices and sodas, full-fat cheese and milk. And remember, half portions of bad-for-you foods are more healthy than full portions.

The regiment also instructs college students how to stop emotional eating, avoid most common danger zones at school for unhealthy eating, implement physical activity (even in a person’s dorm room), follow the proper vitamin and supplement regimen and relax and rejuvenate from the stressful parts of college.

Daphne’s five principles of healthy eating are to always have breakfast. Drink half your body weight in ounces of water daily, including one glass before each meal. Eat at least every three hours. Count to your age before you “cheat.” Avoid eating within two hours of sleeping.
