Breakfast On The Go

Experts constantly say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Studies have even shown that those who eat a healthy breakfast are less likely to overeat the rest of the day. It puts you in a better mood, gives you more energy and starts out your day the right way. But what about those of us who just don't like to eat breakfast or those who don't have the time?

Honestly, there's no excuse for not eating breakfast because no matter how busy you are, you always have time to make something. It only takes a few minutes to create a fast snack that will serve as a good breakfast. You can easily squeeze it in between turning on the coffee pot and sending the kids off on the bus. It only takes a little preparation.

Do you have bread at home? Access to a toaster? Then you have time to make yourself a quick breakfast. Toast two pieces of bread and slather a healthy portion of peanut butter in between or go all out and add some jelly to the mix.

If you prefer your sandwiches untoasted, opt for a regular peanut butter or peanut butter and jelly sandwich. You can even take a page from the King's book and add a sliced banana to your sandwich. If a pb & j isn't your idea of happiness, keep a bag of tortillas in your fridge and a package of Canadian bacon. Lay the tortilla flat on a piece of paper towel, top with the Canadian bacon and a slice of reduced fat cheese and place in the microwave for 30-45 seconds, just long enough to heat everything through and melt the cheese. You can top off your tortilla with a few slices of tomato, spinach or just wrap and go.

If you have a little extra time in the morning, try a healthy smoothie. Add your favorite fruits to the blender, a handful of ice and some low-fat yogurt or milk. Let it blend for a few minutes and you'll have a great drink that fills you up until lunchtime.

Of course, if you're really rushed for time you might want to consider the breakfast options at your favorite fast food restaurant. Take a look at their calorie and fat facts and you might want to run for the hills. Instead pick the best of the worst at the drive thru window.

Look for fresh fruit and fruit juice and build your meal around that. Pancakes without butter or syrup work great as does a plain egg sandwich without the cheese or bacon.
