Nail Polish: Don’t Pick Just One
All of the vibrant colors available in nail polish these days makes it difficult to choose just one. So don’t! The hottest trends in manicures are nails that sport several tones. There are some great, easy techniques to learn how to make the most of your multicolored manicure. First off, the easiest way to get this new look is to do what lots of stars have done on the red carpet and paint four nails per hand with one color and using an accent color on the other two nails. For example, on the runways, a coral color would go on each nail, with the ring fingers, for example, getting a mellow yellow color. Or use fall’s trendy new neutrals – gunmetal gray, black and other industrial shades to mix and match. Go for a brick red with a gold accent nail for a fun fall look. You can use two complementary colors for other looks as well, like nail art, which is definitely making a comeback. Just take a look at Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj’s decorated talons at this year’s Video Music Awards.
Shapes like stars, hearts, polka dots and lines are easy to create. It’s perfectly OK to mix and match colors that go well together and alternate each nail. Invest in a bottle of white polish to get a hot ombre look on your hands. Lauren Conrad was seen sporting the look, which uses one dark color that gradually gets lighter on each finger. The trick is to mix a dark color – navy, purple, black, red or whatever you like – with a bit of white polish, mixing up a color gradation for each nail that gets lighter and lighter as you add more white. It’s a little time-intensive, but ombre is a great look. Another look that takes a bit of effort is the half moon French manicure. Basically, you choose a light color to apply all over the nail, then layer a darker color on top, allowing the light color to peek out via a small, exposed crescent at the bottom of the nail. You can use French manicure tape to create the crescent or go freehand. You can mix up the look by mixing up a traditional French manicure and making the traditional crescent at the top of the nail pointy instead of rounded. Have fun and mix up your manicure this fall!
