Frozen entrees have come a long way from the tasteless TV dinners of the 1960s. They’re not just shapeless blocks of frost-covered foodstuffs anymore. There’s a size, taste and cuisine for every discriminating palate and diet. Lean Cuisine, Weight Watchers, Healthy Choice and other brands are a dream for busy dieters who are constantly on the go. With plenty of varieties to choose from — ranging from Beef Stroganoff to Shrimp Stir-Fry – there’s something to please just about any palate. There are even frozen entrees made specifically for vegetarians. You can eat from the freezer from sunrise to sunset with some delicious and nutritious selections. Try premade sandwiches that include veggie sausage or Canadian bacon for a satisfying start. Most workplaces have microwaves readily available, and dishes can be prepared in less than five minutes.

Fantastic lunchtime selections include the Amy’s line of organic burritos and other ethnic foods. Amy’s makes super pizza, too, which regularly shows up on healthy “best” lists everywhere. With all meals it’s important to read the nutrition labels and keep a close eye on sodium levels. The one downfall of many frozen entrees is too much salt – it’s important to check labels and keep your intake less than 2,400 mg a day. Frozen entrees have another shortcoming – they’re tiny! In many cases, the entrée, which basically consists of a meal’s main dish, may not be filling. Some have 250-300 calories, which is probably not a large enough meal for most people. Supplement with healthful sides, like a green salad or fruit salad, to round out the meal.
