Take on the Menswear Trend
This season, one trend is a take on the Aerosmith song “Dude Looks Like a Lady” – only in reverse. It’s haute these days to look like a guy when it comes to fashion. But we’re not talking about wearing clothes expressly made for men. A sleek, tailored look is perfect this season – the menswear trend is even making it into the outrageous costumes of entertainers like Beyonce, Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga. When you’re going casual in a cute jeans outfit, try throwing a fedora on your head – it’ll keep you warm and be perfectly stylish. Pair those jeans with some preppy heels that have penny loafer detailing for a polished look. If you like flats, the trend is for velvety, tasseled slipper-like loafers. For the office, start with a smart laptop bag that’s more sophisticated than the one your laptop came with. Try a sleek leather carrier in one of the season’s hot colors, like orange, purple or deep blue.
Accompany it with a masculine suit that still hugs all your curves. For casual Fridays or everyday if your office is casual, try a corduroy blazer with matching pants in a rich, autumn hue instead of the usual basic black. Plaid blazers paired with button-down shirts are fantastic for layering in the office. Pop a little pocket square into a jacket pocket for a pop of color in a more buttoned-up office environment. A feminine pencil skirt makes a great contrast with a menswear-inspired button-down shirt, and a faux-crocodile belt tops off the look perfectly.
