The Benefits of Facial Massage

When you think of a massage, the face is probably the last thing that comes to mind. However, facial massages are every bit as important. The benefits of facial massages go beyond just feeling good. These techniques help release tension, boost circulation and assist in ridding the skin of impurities. In addition, facial massages have been found to lessen the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Experts recommend you don’t exceed 20 minutes when massaging the face. Going too long can actually stretch the skin or lengthen facial muscles. When you’re getting started, the first step is to get the circulation flowing. Gently squeeze the skin on the side of the nose, beside the eyebrows and around the temple area. Dampen the face with water or cream. Massage into jawline and in the area beneath the eyes. Move up to the forehead and then move down to the temples. Move the fingers in small circles on the chin and move into the jawline and up toward the temples. Next, work to iron out those creases above the eyebrows by sliding the fingers in an upward and outward motion along the eyebrows and in the direction of the ears. Working the forehead and nose will target lines in those areas. Targeting the skin around the nostrils not only unclogs pores but prevents pimples. Rubbing the area around the mouth and cheeks prevents bags and wrinkles. As for the chin and neck, this tightens the muscles and prevents sagging skin, which can deal with those unsightly double chins. Always move the skin in an upward motion. The trick is to be gentle especially if you have sensitive skin. If you don’t feel comfortable giving yourself a massage, hit up your local spa or salon for a facial.
