Tie it Up: Sophisticated Updos
Putting hair up in a ponytail is such a simple way to conceal a host of hair issues, from frizz to needing a washing to a bad haircut. But just because it’s your go-to hairstyle for when you don’t want to style your hair doesn’t mean a ponytail can’t be pretty or unique. Pulling hair away from the face is a hot trend, and here are a few ways to do it right. First, if it’s done right, a ponytail can be a glamorous style. If you want to go with a regular ponytail, smooth some anti-frizz creme through your hair and sweep it up with a soft-bristled brush so as not to form grooves in the hair. To secure, avoid rubber bands. Even traditional hair elastics can be damaging and can leave “dents” in your hair. The newest way to tie up a sleek ponytail is with hair ties – they’re thick, ribbon-like ties that work like elastics, without leaving creases, pulling or damage to hair.
If you’re looking for something fancier and less cheerleader-ish, then try a low ponytail that allows hair to fall around the face, and to glam up that look, then make it sleek around your face and head. This style looks best on women who have hair that is straight and not layered. But layers work great to give low ponytails texture, too. Create a messy center part and brush hair back loosely, spraying with a light spray gel. Secure at the nape of your neck with an elastic, ribbon or other pretty bauble. Allow layers around the face to fall. Give the style some polish and keep strands off your face with a DIY headband in the form of a long, thick ribbon. Velvet and suede are great materials to choose for fall. Simply wrap around your head behind your ears and tie into a bow underneath the ponytail. Try a pretty updo to jazz up a fall outfit.
