Curves

ImageMost women complain that they do not exercise because they do not have the time or know-how to even get started. With this in mind, the founders of Curves started a woman's-only gym that requires just 30 minutes, three times a week. With Curves, you get a workout that combines both aerobic and strength-training exercises using hydraulic resistance machines.

With more than 10,000 locations and growing, Curves prides itself in creating an atmosphere that is chock full of fun and a supportive climate. With more than 4 million members, many of the people who attend Curves have found the workout establishment via word of mouth.

Designed only for ladies, you do not have to change weights or struggle to work the machines. There is always a trained staff on-hand to make sure that you are using the machines properly and maintaining the right form. Through simple resistance work, you are able to move throughout the circuit with ease. Instead of lifting and lowering weight, you push and pull your way through the course.

The workout includes five steps: warm-up, aerobic exercise, strength training, cool down and stretching. During the 30-minute circuit, you move from machine to machine performing aerobics in between. By using the weight-bearing machines, you will also lower your risk for osteoporosis and other degenerative diseases.

ImageAppropriate for any age -- from 12 to 105 -- the equipment adjusts according to your skills. This one size fits all approach can work for nearly anyone regardless of the shape you are currently in.

In addition to the 30-minute workout, there is also a nutritional component known as The Curves 6-Week Solution. The Curves plan includes five small meals throughout the day instead of three large meals. There are two programs - one that's high in protein and another that's high in carbohydrates.

The 6-Week Solution includes an intake of 30 to 45 percent, and a restricted intake of unhealthy carbs and sugar-laden foods.

A few of the benefits of the 6-Week Solution include a revved metabolism from eating and strength-training. In addition, you're following a well-balanced diet that is both healthy and easy to stick to. Forget calorie-restrictive programs -- you will enjoy 2,0000 to 2,500 calories a day.

It is recommended that you limit your intake of processed foods, although there are no off-limit foods. You can receive additional nutrition guidance through small classes at the gym or with a copy of the Curves book.
