Take Lashes to Great Lengths

This fall, the trend for eye makeup may skew toward the "what not to do" side of the spectrum. That's because big lashes are in. When it comes to the haute look in peepers, more and more people are opting to clump it up. Think Twiggy from the '60s and '70s when eyes looked really wide against a backdrop of spidery lashes that were long and somewhat stuck together. Ordinarily, women use mascara to put a thin coat or two on lashes, lengthening and separating each lash from one another as they apply. However, the spider lashes look requires coat after coat of inky black mascara to achieve the look. And if yours aren't Kim Kardashian-like in length, fake it...just like she does.

That's right - those long lashes may not all be hers. So try out some fake lashes if you need them and apply a thin layer of mascara to curled lashes, and don't forget the bottom lashes. Use a lightweight, non-volumizing mascara to start, then switch to a heartier formula, like the popular Maybelline Great Lash. Give wet lashes another curl before switching mascaras. You'll want to apply the coats as if you're painting on the mascara, rather than smoothing it from end to tip. Roll the wand back and forth over lashes and apply at least four coats, allowing each coat to dry in between applications. Makeup artists suggest wearing such a dramatic look for a night out on the town, paired with a bold lipstick color. As the weather gets cooler, heat up your look with this new take on eyes.
