Dating Tips for the Shy

Tired of being alone but not sure if you're ready to crawl out of your shell? Shy people find love all the time, so if you're one of them, it's time to go out on a limb. You really don't have to step too far out of your comfort zone to have a satisfying social life, including finding love. Before you even lay eyes on a date, it's possible to get to know the person online first. Online dating is tailor-made for shy people, who can hide behind their computer monitors, perusing the profiles of potential dates, anxiety-free. It's likely that interested parties will contact you first, leaving no need to initiate the first wink, message or email. Meeting people in person can be trickier, however. Obviously a crowded and loud bar isn't the place for the introvert who's trying to meet people.

Lean on your friends a little if you trust them enough to set you up. They know you well and understand the challenges you face in meeting new guys, so a blind date could turn out successfully. When you do land that date, there are a few ways to reduce the anxiety you might feel. First of all, decide what kind of date would suit you best. Perhaps you aren't a big conversationalist - start the date by going to the movies, which will give you two hours to spend together in silence, then provide a conversation starter for whatever you decide to do afterward. If conversation comes to a standstill, then just remember that just because you don't like talking about yourself, human nature dictates that most people do. Ask questions about him - start with his upbringing, cities where he's lived, his occupation, and anything else that enables you to get to know more about him. Be sure to gauge whether or not he reciprocates by asking you questions or if he simply enjoys talking about himself.
