Savory Snacks
If you want something with a little more "meat" to it, roll up a thin slice of turkey breast with a lettuce leaf and a squirt of mustard. And what do you have? A 50-calorie snack that is sure to get you through until dinnertime. You could substitute a slice of lean ham, if you prefer. Throw in a slice of Weight Watchers Wheat or Multigrain bread for just 45 calories more and you've got a sandwich!
Vegetables -- raw or cooked -- can provide a wholesome, savory snack for under 100 calories. Zap a cup of baby carrots in the microwave with a splash of water for 5 to 10 minutes and drizzle a teaspoon of honey over it totaling 100 calories. Or eat them uncooked if that's your thing. The list of raw vegetables that provide a great snack is endless: celery, broccoli, and red bell pepper, to name a few.
Dairy products serve double-duty as great snack foods. One dairy serving provides a much-needed helping of calcium and includes enough protein to get us by for a couple of hours more. Sargento's String Cheese at 80 calories is lots of fun to eat. The light version is only 50 calories. The Laughing Cow's Mini Babybel cheeses are so cute with their little round selves! The regular Mini Babybels are 70 calories while the light cheese rounds are only 50 calories. My favorite cheese snack has to be Sargento's Reduced Fat Colby-Jack Cheese Sticks for 50 calories. If you are seeking snacks containing less than 100 calories, look in your cupboards and refrigerators. You just might be surprised at what you will find.
